The Easter Conspiracy
by Ed Sawicki - March 31, 2024
It's Easter and the right-wing political machine is in full outrage, claiming that Joe Biden deliberately declared a day that gives visibility to transgender people on the same day as Easter Sunday. A clear slap in the face to Christians, right?
The International Transgender Day of Visibility was created on March 31, 2009 by transgender activist Rachel Crandall Crocker of Michigan in 2009—not by Joe Biden. This secular non-holiday has been celebrated every year on that date since 2009. In 2021 and 2024, Biden recognized the day, but did not change its date.
Easter is a religious holiday that is a “movable feast” celebrated on a date that is based on ancient tradition. The formula is explained well in the Wikipedia page below. It's always celebrated on a Sunday.
Anyone who has paid attention to our calendar knows that days of the week are in no way synchronized to days of the month. March 31 may be a Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday...you get the point. To make it clear, here's a list of the dates of Easter Sunday since 2009. All are Sunday:
- 2009 April 12
- 2010 April 4
- 2011 April 24
- 2012 April 8
- 2013 March 31
- 2014 April 20
- 2015 April 5
- 2016 March 27
- 2017 April 16
- 2018 April 1
- 2019 April 21
- 2020 April 12
- 2021 April 4
- 2022 April 17
- 2023 April 9
- 2024 March 31
- 2025 April 20
- 2026 April 5
- 2027 March 28
- 2028 April 16
- 2029 April 1
- 2030 April 21
Twice, Easter Sunday and the transgender day were the same day. So, this outrage is over how our calendar works. I give this right-wing outrage a 10 on the wackadoodle index.
